  We booked for a family birthday meal for my 81 year old father.I had a voicemail message on my home phone to say I hadn't called to pre-order 7 days before our meal, I called to say I had in fact emailed the night before. The lady i spoke to was very abrupt and rude saying they needed to have placed there food order and because I hadn't sent our menu choices they may not have what we required, I said I had emailed the night before for her to say I don't look at my emails regular. No apology still very rude and abrupt, at this point if it hadn't been we had booked for 22 people and could have possibly found it difficult to get in elsewhere I would have cancelled my booking. A family member then phoned to add another person on the next day, the same person was equally rude to her. On arrival at the pub I asked if it was possible to move the tables slightly to accommodate our party, we where squashed into one end the restaurant. I was told if you move the tables they are old and will fall apart. The staff where very unhelpful. Most of the party had a starter, main course and puddings. When asking for the bill a £5 charge was added, when we asked we were told it was for bringing out the celebration cake. At no point was I told about this charge, apparently it's in the small print on the menu in the restaurant, i had to ask for a knife to cut the cake, then someone did say do I want any plate? The food was plentiful and average. I would definitely not recommend eating at this establishment. I recommend reading the small print on the menu for any hidden cost. They will soon start charging for car parking !!!!

  Nice staff and good beer. Food pretty poor. Suet pie was like a big biscuit and hardly anything in it. 3 bits of meat I think in it. Lots of chips and veg. Veg canalonie ok.
